On Lake Norman, the Marine Commission monitors all charter boats and excursion boats, and legally requires operators to be US Coast Guard licensed Master Captains! If you are considering a Lake Norman boat rental or charter, make sure that boat rental with driver is actually a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain and ask to see his or her credential and the company’s charter boat permit from the Lake Norman Marine Commission.
Without a USCG Master Captain behind the helm, your Lake Norman Boat Rental with driver may not be quite what you hoped for from a safety, liability, experience, and potentially legal standpoint. Don’t put yourself and your friends at risk!

Matt has been an avid outdoorsman his entire life. Growing up in a family of fishermen, Matt’s appreciation for the outdoors and a respect for mother nature were cultivated at a young age.
With over 1,000 days of sea service and hundreds of safe and fun charters completed day and night on LKN, Matt’s vast experience allows you to feel safe while you enjoy your best lake day!
Captain Nelson
Nelson is a retired US Special Forces Veteran who has spent most of his life either on the water or under the water. He’s a Dive Master, an experienced sailor providing sailing excursions on large catamarans in the Caribbean, and spends a lot of time teaching wounded Veterans how to sail through his non-profit organization.
Nelson is also an avid outdoorsman, horseman, an excellent instructor who stays in top physical condition as a Personal Physical Training, and a Master Fitness Instructor. Captain Nelson’s focus is to provide a safe, fun, and enjoyable day on Lake Norman for everyone!
